A World of Colour- I paint my unique view of what I see around me. I find endless inspiration from nature, stories, pattern and colour, Life Drawing and, of course, the work of great painters. As you see , the subjects I paint are very diverse and I really enjoy this.

I am Chairman of Barnsley and District Art Society and one of my duties is to arrange a programme of demonstrations and workshops with professional artists (and talented amateurs!) Of course , this gives me a great excuse to visit exhibitions and open studios and try out new techniques in workshops, in order to make links with many artists.

Northern Fringe Artists

I am also a member of the Northern Fringe Gallery collective of artists – it gives me great pleasure to discuss themes and ideas with other artists. We exhibit our work in galleries a couple of times a year. Actually , our next one is at Creative Arts Hub in Mirfield, starting this Saturday, 6th November, 2021. The theme is very rich and thought-provoking – Great Yorkshire Writers. Happily , I can indulge my love of narrative painting to the full with this group. Breaking news! This painting is on showing my solo exhibition at Darfield Museum, now (September 20222. And, it has been attracting lots of attention!

Another one of my passions is Life Drawing – I try to go to my group each week. To be honest , I never tire of painting and drawing the figure . Recently , I’ve been trying out some abstract approaches . ( See ‘Girl Sleeping ‘ above. )

Urban Sketching – another stop on my artistic journey

A modern Madonna and Child sculpture in Wakefield cathedral

I really enjoy making quick sketches in pencil, pen and watercolour en plein air , on the spot, so to speak. So I try to get out with Urban Sketchers Yorkshire whenever I can. To ‘ record the world one sketch at a time ‘ as they say .

As you can see, painting and drawing is my life. But my real love is landscape painting. Have a look at my blog for more insights into what I do. I really hope you enjoy sharing my artistic journey !
